Local Businesses Producing Recycled, 'Made In the USA' Clothes

Posted: Updated:

Rarely do we know exactly where our clothing comes from, but a pair of Morgantown businesses is changing that.

SustainU and design company Made in West Virginia have combined to create 100 percent recycled, "Made in the USA" clothing.

Made in West Virginia designs the shirts, and SustainU makes them from recycled plastics mixed with scrap fibers and sells them.

Made in West Virginia is just one of many designers SustainU works with, but Brian Pickens said SustainU's practices made them a perfect fit to partner with.

"Part of West Virginia is, it's frickin' beautiful, and having the ecologically sound business plan is crucial to living up to what I'm trying to go for, the awesomeness of West Virginia itself," said Pickens.

"Sustainability is something people have been talking about for awhile now, and now its starting to make its way into different applications, and clothing is something that nobody had really taken a run at," said Trey Dunham of SustainU.

You can buy Made in West Virginia clothes at SustainU's store in the Wharf District, or through its website.
