BUCKHANNON -

The Upshur County Commission approved policies and procedures for the Lewis Upshur Animal Control Facility on Thursday.

The guide outlines what volunteers can and can't do.

There's also a new application for anyone who surrenders an animal to the facility.

Commission President Donnie Tenney said it will help future animal rescues and give information to people who adopt pets.

"I think that it will adopt more animals, and people will also know what the animal's personality is more like, and they'll be able to pick a pet in tune with the family needs," Tenney said.

Tenney said volunteers usually come in early to clean cages. The commission approved the following personnel as volunteers: Teri Riffle, Robin Keough, Cristy Lloyd, Shelley Phillips, Nikole English, Sandra Bennett, and Christy Riffle.

Tenney said the facility's hours were never cut.

The facility hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

It's located on Mud Lick Road near Buckhannon.

The commission also received news that the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals has approved a court security fund grant totaling $38,176. The purpose is to enhance the county's court security.

The state's Division of Justice and Community Services administers the program.
