    It was a celebratory day at West Virginia Wesleyan College as Senator Jay Rockefeller returned to campus for the first time in nearly eight years in an event with journalist Ted Koppel.

West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon said it's expecting its largest incoming freshmen class in a decade.

West Virginia Wesleyan officials said this year's incoming class will have about 470 freshmen coming to Buckhannon, and more than 500 total undergraduates.

They also said freshmen applications to West Virginia Wesleyan have increased by more than 30 percent since 2010.

According to the U.S. News College Rankings and Reviews website, West Virginia Wesleyan had a 78 percent acceptance rate in 2011.

With 12 graduate programs offered at West Virginia Wesleyan, the graduate student enrollment figures are also continuing to grow. There are currently 92 graduate students enrolled at West Virginia Wesleyan.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the current total enrollment at West Virginia Wesleyan is 1,452.

New student orientation will begin on Saturday, August 17 and classes will begin Monday, August 22.
