Monongalia County Circuit Clerk Honored for Her Service

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia's longest serving elected official was honored Wednesday.

The Monongalia Commission chambers was standing room only Wednesday morning as Jean Friend was honored by the West Virginia Association of Counties for her years of dedicated service.

In 1962, Friend ran for Monongalia County's circuit clerk, and won. She's served that role for the county ever since.

Friend was honored by the many that turned out.

"They're all my friends, I have so many friends and I've always been involved. I've always been involved in politics, so I've always been active," Friend said.

Friend was also the first Monongalia County representative to serve as the president of the association of counties.
