Economic Development on the Rise in Upshur County

BUCKHANNON -

Economic development is starting to pay off in Upshur County, with some new businesses opening soon in Buckhannon.

Like most small towns, economic development happens in phases. Buckhannon is starting a new phase.

The latest plans for new business was revealed Tuesday as Fiesta Holdings of Baltimore Md., announced plans to build a Taco Bell right on Main Street. Its being built between Progressive Bank and CVS Pharmacy.

Alex Lawrence, a partner in Fiesta Holdings said the site will be a convenient location.

"It will provide another very good place for Buckhannon folks to eat and to congregate. We had been looking two to three years for the perfect place to put this Taco Bell in, and it's taking us that long to finally find the right spot," said Lawrence.

Auto Zone, the leading retailer and a leading distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories in the United States, is putting the finish touches on its new location off South Locust St.

"The building is 7,100 square feet, and we have three months to build them. Auto Zone is really hitting hard in building stores in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They'll bring two truck loads in on Sunday and Monday and start shelve stocking," said Scott Maness, project manager for Woolard Attman Construction of Marietta, Ga.

Auto Zone should open at the end of August.

Workers were seen on Wednesday adding paint to the building.

Northridge Development is working on a shopping center that will be located next to Microtel Inn and Suites off Route 20 and Route 33.  The shopping center is looking at a completion date of early next year.

A new steakhouse may be going in at the former Carmona's Mexican Restaurant, and a Internet Coffee Cafe may go in next to Buckhannon City Hall.
