The Gabriel Project helps pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of 2.

The non-profit organization runs solely on volunteers and donations and provides mothers with food, clothes, car seats, cribs, and more.

The Marion County Commission has awarded $1,000 to the project's Mannington office.

The Gabriel Project said it hopes to spread into Fairmont and Clarksburg in the near future. The Gabriel Project of West Virginia began with "a group of women in Wheeling who were concerned for the welfare of low-income women and children in their community", according to its website.

The project helped more than 4,000 families in 2012 and said it expects to continue to increase that number in the near future, according to its website.

For more information about the project, call the state office at 304-205-5865.
