BUCKHANNON -

The Upshur County Commission approved the county's emergency mapping zones Thursday.

Upshur County 911 Director Steve Linger said this will help phone companies assist 911 centers in pinpointing exact locations with the county's automatic location device.

"If we get the right department toned out as soon as we can, and they get fire trucks on the way they'll get to people's houses a lot sooner. So it's important that all of this paperwork gets done so our automated computer aided dispatch system will have the correct information in it," Linger said.

Linger said 911 is working with volunteer fire departments to create software with the basic mapping information.
