Goodwill Hosts Donation Drive Celebration in Sabraton

Posted: Updated:

The Goodwill store in Sabraton held a Donation Drive Celebration Saturday from 9-1 p.m.

The event is meant to thank donors for bringing out the donations they have over the year but also to encourage new donations.

The store also had free refreshments like coffee, pop, and hot dogs, for people to enjoy while they came in and shopped or donated. It also did a drawing for gift cards to many local businesses for people that signed up to win through out the day.

The event is held as part of Goodwill's mission to be able to help those in need.

"Donations are the heart of what we do at Goodwill," said Pamela Geruschat, the Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania District Manager. "With those donations we're able to sell them in the retails stores and that in turn generates the revenue we need to fund programs to help people that have intellectual and physical disabilities. It's our mission."

The Goodwill supports more than 60 programs. One of those programs is Rise.  It teaches young people construction professions. There is also the opportunity for people with disabilities to work and feel the value of independence.

Each program has more information available at the Goodwill website.
