Christian Help Hosts Annual Back to School Sale

Posted: Updated:

Before you know it school will be back in session and that means new shoes, new book bags, and most importantly new school supplies.

Christian Help in Morgantown does its best each year to lessen the load of buying all new supplies on families with its Back to School event.

The store opened its doors on Saturday to more than 500 people. Guests waited outside of the store in the rain to enter the free event.

There are gently used and new clothing for children from 3-18 years old. Mentors take the children and their parents through the store and help them get the things they need for school, all for free.

This year Monongalia County is expanding its kindergarten programs. Christian Help knew there would be more people coming to the sale because of that.

"We've over shopped, so many companies and individuals kicked in this year and sponsored children for $25 to buy shoes, and to buy socks, and undies, and backpacks and school supplies." said Cheryl Callen, Director at Christian Help. "So we really have had a generous reaction from the community. And we had a lot of volunteers that we didn't know were coming just show up."

The Back to School sale will also run Monday, August 5 through Wednesday, August 7 at the Christian Help store from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
