A Marion County man is behind bars on a sexual assault charge.

Fairmont State University Police arrested Peter Lach, 68, of Marion County on Sunday morning for second degree sexual assault. West Virginia State Police assisted in the arrest.

The victim told FSU Police that Lach used physical force to restrain him and initiated a sexual act without the victim's consent, according to the criminal complaint. The victim also told police that Lach reacted aggressively after the victim asked him to stop, shoving the victim several times, which caused him to fall and hit his head on a copy machine, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim then fled the scene and went to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport where he reported the assault and was treated for a head injury, according to the criminal complaint.

Peter Lach was the dean of the School of Fine Arts at FSU but was fired following the sexual assault allegations, according to Ann Booth, director of University Communications at FSU.

Dr. Constance Edwards, the associate dean of the School of Fine Arts at the university, is now the interim dean, according to Booth.

Lach's preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 22 at 1 p.m. in Marion County Magistrate Court.
