WEST UNION -

The first day of school is just around the corner for most counties.

Soon the malls will be filling up with students and their parents buying new clothes for the school year.

The counties in the area all have different dress codes, and it's important to remember what's acceptable and what isn't when you're getting your students ready for the first day.

The General Director of Doddridge County Schools said its dress code is pretty standard, but there is an easy way to find out what each county's policies are, and what is expected.

"You would simply go to the state's West Virginia Department of Education website, and each county will have a web page and have an area that you can click and you can go directly to that and find out what it is and if you want to you can make a comparison," said Alvin Ross, with Doddridge County Schools.

Ross said that in Doddridge County they mainly go by state set standards, and the student code of conduct.

He said one of the things that isn't allowed in school is shirts with offensive or violent messages. Ross also explained that when something like this is worn, the administration will work with the student to find something else to wear so they don't have to leave school.

The first day of school for Doddridge County is August 15. For a list of starts dates for counties in north central West Virginia, click here.
