Webster County Considering Electronic Cigarette Ban

Posted: Updated:

One local county is looking to take its current ban on smoking to the next level.

The Webster County Board of Health wants to stop the use of electronic cigarettes any place where regular cigarette use is already illegal.

It's a move that's been meeting mixed reactions.

While some people use them to help quit smoking, others said it's only fair to those who smoke tobacco.

"A lot of people would say, 'oh look, she's smoking a cigarette in here,' and if you're not allowed to smoke an actual cigarette in there, I don't think that you should be able to smoke those electronic ones in there either," said Sharlet Christian, who uses both tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

The board is taking public comment on the proposal until August 16.

Comments can be sent in writing to the Webster County Health Department at 112 Bell Street, Suite C, Webster Springs, WV 26288.

You can also e-mail comments to Sandra.j.cochran@wv.gov.

The full proposal is available in multiple locations. Copies are posted at the Webster County Courthouse, Webster County Libraries, and the Health Department's Facebook page. You can also get a copy of the proposal from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at the department's office in Webster Springs.
