--Update--

The grand opening of the new East Fairmont Junior High School has been pushed back a couple months.

Students were expected to move into the school in January, but winter weather has changed those plans.

The Marion County school board approved the $15.7 million construction project last year.

Crews are working on the interior until the weather improves.

Now, they plan to finish up in the spring.

East Fairmont Junior High School students will be moving into their new home this school year.

The Marion County Board of Education approved a $15.7 million bid from City Construction in 2012 and the project has been ongoing ever since.

Superintendent Gary Price said the new school will be state-of-the-art and a huge upgrade from what the students are in now.

"The school is moving right along. Anybody that's been by there can see that the walls are going up, the roofs are going on. It's just making remarkable progress. It's a rare opportunity to be able to open a nice new building like that but its going to be an exciting thing for us this year," Price said.

Price said the school was expected to be finished in January of 2014 but now it's looking more like March or April.

The seventh and eighth graders will be finishing the school year in the new building and in the 2014-2015 year, all grades will be in it. The old East Fairmont Junior High building will be demolished.

"The area where the parking lot and the building are will be the athletic field for the physical education and the various teams that play."

In August of 2012, Price said the Board of Education faced an unexpected expense when City Construction found part of a basement and a swimming pool from a former house on the property and the board had to use over $200,000 from its contingency fund to remove it.
