Back to School Fashions for Fall 2013

MORGANTOWN -

Going back to school can be stressful but getting new back to school clothes is one of the best parts about the process, so it's important for you to know what's hot and what's not.

This year is all about bold prints and neon colors for girls. Boys are pretty basic to shop for. Stick with jeans, graphic tees and plaids.

Parents are looking for everything from shoes to book bags for their kids' first day back.

"Looking for backpacks for this one," said Monica Martin about her 6-year-old, Miranda, who will be heading to first grade this year. "She's looking for a 'Hello Kitty' backpack with a lunch box to match it, that's actually what she's after. Of course, she's not real picky about clothes so just real cute stuff is all we're looking for her."

Shoppers can find almost anything they're looking for at the Morgantown Mall. But if you don't want to spend the time or money shopping through the mall there are other options like Cool Kids Consignment on the Mileground in Morgantown.

"It's nice to come to consignment shops and get nice clothes that don't cost so much," Monica Martin said.

"We have amazing merchandise at 50 to 70 percent off retail. We put out hundreds of items daily which makes it a fun place to shop, you just never know what you're going to find," said the owner of Cool Kids Consignment, Rhonda Rice. "It's a great place to come for back to school items."

The start of school is coming up soon and Caitlyn Martin, Monica Martin's 13-year-old daughter, already has her outfit picked out for the first day of eighth grade.

"White shorts, and then I have a hot pink tank top that is like, black lacy over it with white polka dots," Caitlyn Martin said. "And sparkly."

Monica Martin is a hairdresser and said that hair is just as important for kids' styles.

"With haircuts, the boys are the 'fo-hawks,' is what is getting very popular for boys," said Monica. "And I did a real short haircut on a girl yesterday, she went from long to short for a younger girl."

Seventeen Magazine said that the "Clueless look", (knee socks, skirts and blazers) is also in this fall.

There are several other styles and trends, like heel sneakers and sweaters, that you can find one the Teen Vogue website.
