Davis Memorial Hospital is answering rumors that the hospital is facing financial troubles.

A spokesperson said there are a lot of changes going on in the health care industry in general and that Davis Memorial Hospital is aligning its organization in a new direction to meet those changes.

The hospital said, like many hospitals, it's seeing a reduction in Medicare payments, decreases in in-patient volume, and meeting the costing challenges of the federal health care reform.

The spokesperson said there have been no layoffs or staff reductions and none is being planned.

"Hospitals and health systems are having to make changes just to move forward, and that's what were doing. We're trying to meet the demand of change and just insure access to quality health care to the patients in our five county region is going to be maintained,"

Davis Memorial Hospital made some cost saving changes several months ago.

It said it's trying to minimize the effect of those changes on its employees.
