BRIDGEPORT -

The Meadowbrook Mall is in the middle of multi-million dollar renovations to both the inside and outside of the mall.

The mall recently announced one more addition: a soft children's play area.

The play area, referred to as the Connect-Bridgeport Kids Zone, will be located in the Sears court and will offer a large space for children to play safely. The Kids Zone will feature custom-made play elements depicting the many commercial and recreation assets of the Greater Bridgeport Area. The elements, along with the play area's floor, will be soft to the touch and are designed specifically for the enjoyment of young kids.

The Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsored the new area.

The area will also have couches and tables for the parents to relax. Mall representatives hope the play area will bring new shoppers to the mall.

"I know it's going to attract the current shoppers at the mall. What we hope is that it will bring in new shoppers, and some of the visitors that come to the area for tourism, it just gives the area one more amenity to offer, and no parent will turn down a soft play area," said Robin Urquhart, of the Meadowbrook Mall.

Urquhart said the mall hopes to have the play area open in the first quarter of 2014.
