Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and West Virginia Department of Transportation Cabinet Secretary Paul Mattox joined Division of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Steve Dale and members of the Contractors Association of West Virginia Aug. 14 in showing off a new license plate.

The specialty license plate featuring the association's "Hard at Work" logo has been added to the lineup of 93 license plates offered by the state DMV.

Specialty plates come at an added cost to drivers, and some require special certification. The Fraternal Order of Police plate, for example, is only offered to active members of the West Virginia Fraternal Order of Police. The Friends of Coal plate is available to anyone.

Special license plates generate $1.2 million in revenue for the state. A basic plate registration is $30, with a $15 renewal cost.
