MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia University's annual FallFest brought five big acts to the Mountainlair Plaza on Monday. It's a concert that brings all the students together.

"It's the first day back, and we want them to have a really good year, so why not have a huge concert where they can all get together they can mingle around? "And they can enjoy some music on the Mountainlair too," said David Ryan with West Virginia University Arts and Entertainment.

WVU welcomed the students back in a big way with the annual concert. The show kicked off with Colt Ford, a blend of country and rap music, followed by Capital Cities, Ciara, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and finished up with Pretty Lights.

One student said it was a nice mix of genres.

"I think it's a good mix. I think the majority of it is up and coming artists. You got Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who are pretty well established but not at the level of Jay-Z or Kanye West. And Colt Ford is a pretty good country group," said Kyle Monroe, a WVU sophomore.

Monroe said he thinks FallFest is a great event for a number of reasons.

"It gets students together, and it's a big event that the whole campus can come to. It's free, which is a college students dream, a free concert. They bring a lot of good artists every year and it's a great way to meet people because it brings everybody together," said Monroe.

Even though FallFest is all about having fun, Ryan said safety is always the number one concern.

"We do tons of preparation, we have security, we have our own event staff trained and anything that happens we have EMS on standby. It's a pretty safe environment and we hope we have all contingencies covered," explained Ryan.

Ryan said he estimated to have around 20,000 people at the concert. FallFest is held in conjunction with Welcome Week, and you can find the schedule of events here.
