Create West Virginia has launched two crowdfunding campaigns to raise money for green energy projects and a conference to be held in Richwood Oct. 24-26.

One campaign is on the website dubvee.com, designed for natives of Richwood, their friends and relatives and anyone who has ties to the old Nicholas County lumber company town. Dubvee was launched recently by Scott Depot businessman Shane Richardson, who has also established Mountaineer Creative Labs, a source for Internet-related services, graphic design, and commercial photography.

Richardson's dubvee.com is the first crowdfunding platform created exclusively for West Virginians who are interested in helping fellow West Virginians fund business and community projects. Create West Virginia's goal is to raise $7,500 to help cover costs to construct a system for feeding solar-generated electricity into the power grid. The solar array, to be engineered by West Virginia native Matthew Bennett, who is vice president of engineering and design at Dovetail Wind & Solar of Athens, Ohio, will be mounted on a series of wooden sculptures created by architect Thomas Worlledge, of McKinley & Associates.

The organization has also launched another, simultaneous crowdfunding campaign on the international website Indiegogo.com with a goal of raising $15,000 for expenses associated with the Create West Virginia Conference on The Future, a wi-fi hotspot system for the commercial area of Richwood and the trellis-mounted solar system.

"We're excited about using these new tools that many entrepreneurs are turning to now for raising capital," says Rebecca Kimmons, director of the 2013 Create West Virginia Conference. "There are so many elements of the creative community coming together to make this happen. Shane Richardson's dubvee site was ready just at the moment we need it."
