WVU Hosts Veterans Meet and Greet

Posted: Updated:

On Wednesday, West Virginia University's office of Veterans Advocates hosted a meet and greet for new and returning student veterans.

It said events like this one give student veterans opportunities to talk with other students about their experiences.

WVU senior and student veteran Daniel Alexander said the meet and greets are a great way to share experiences. At the student veteran events, the students are able to talk about class registration, stream line processes for financial aid and safety nets incase veterans have problems adjusting to civilian life along the way.

Alexander said he hopes that today's freshman veterans take advantage of the group and mold its future.

"I love it because I get a chance to help them not make the same mistakes that I made, and like the fellow veterans that started with me made. Most of us didn't graduate in four years. Most of us are five and six years and had problems with the GI Bill, the VA and all that different kind of thing so we've been able to work out a lot of those bugs." Said Alexander.

Alexander also said it's important to get veterans on a path to get a college degree in four years while its still covered by their benefits.
