MORGANTOWN -

'CASA for Kids' of Monongalia and Preston Counties held its annual 'Bluegrass and Barbeque Fundraiser' on Thursday evening at St. John's University Parish.

The event brings the people from the community together for music, food and auctions to help support the local children in need.

For $40 per guest or $75 per couple, people in attendance could listen to bluegrass music and get barbeque prepared by the Preston County Inn.

'CASA for Kids' places a mentor on a case for an abused or neglected children in the court system. That one advocate stays with the child through out the disposition. It is completely supported on donations it receives from the community and events that is hosted, like this one.

"This programs helps to pay for the volunteers and the Program Directors position. For all of the training that goes into it, CASA volunteers get 40 hours of training, they get monthly in services, and they get ongoing monitoring supervision with the volunteer coordinators," said Terry Sigley, a former member on the 'CASA for Kids' Board. "So we have a lot of support in house, and we really welcome volunteers from the community coming in and making a difference in these abused and neglected children's lives."

The United Way is also a big help for the CASA program. The event is held annually in August.
