A man and woman are in jail after an attempted traffic stop led to a chase in St. Albans.
According to police, Olivia Shay Lester, 20, and Blake Edward Rutledge, 19, have been arrested and charged with operating or attempting a drug lab, defective equipment, fleeing with reckless indifference, and fleeing on foot.
Lester has also been charged with hitting a police cruiser.
Police say they tried to stop a white Kia Optima in the area of Winfield Road in St. Albans that had a defective headlight, but the vehicle fled.
A chase ensued, resulting in the suspects' vehicle hitting train tracks in the Swans Lane area, then backing into the police cruiser, then sliding partially off a hillside.
Both Lester and Rutledge then fled on foot, but were found hiding in a brush area near the vehicle.
Police say that when they searched the suspects' vehicle, they found various paraphernalia that is used to make meth, including a bottle of drain cleaner in a plastic bag, syringes, white rubber tubing, rubber gloves, several round white and yellow pills, and various other items.
Both Lester and Rutledge are being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
Lester's bond is set at $50,000.
