Buckhannon Fire Department Hosts Five Alarm Mud Run

BUCKHANNON -

The Buckhannon Fire Department held its inaugural five alarm mud run on Saturday.

About 100 people ran in the 5-K race that involved obstacles like rock walls, ice baths, and of course mud.

Representatives from the fire department said they have taken part in races like this one before, and knew they could host one.

Some of the obstacles were recreated from other races, but some were originally made by the fire department members.

There was also a kid's mud run held before the start of the main race.

The proceeds from the race will help to improve features at the fire department.

"Overall we're happy with it, happy with the participation. The people that have come through already are ecstatic and said they would be back next year. All proceeds will be going to us. We've got some major purchases we're getting ready to make as far as equipment, and this will go towards those purchases," said Joey Baxa, of the Buckhannon Fire Department.

Baxa said with the positive feedback from runners, the fire department will be making the five alarm mud run an annual event.
