Local Humane Societies Encourage Adoption On National Dog Day

Posted: Updated:

Monday, August 26, is National Dog Day.

It is also known as International Dog Day and National Dog Appreciation Day.

Humane societies across the nation are using the holiday to spread the word about adoption and its importance.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 and aims to recognize all dogs, especially those who have been rescued from abuse.

Its website said it wants to spread the word about the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year. It also acknowledges family dogs, dogs that work to save lives, and those who are just there to keep us safe and bring comfort.

Several organizations exist to help animals and people in Marion County.

Some of the most popular are the Marion County Humane Society, Pet Helpers, and Paws 4 People.

The Humane Society said its facility is completely full and encourages the public to come out and see its animals.

Pet Helpers provides foster homes for dogs, helps with surgeries and more. Its main goal is to help dogs find their forever home.

Paws 4 People trains dogs to help people with disabilities or veterans with post traumatic stress disorder.
