CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia's new secretary of veterans assistance will travel the state next month to listen to veterans.

Rick Thompson will open his five-stop tour on Sept. 11 in Beckley, at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging. He has scheduled other stops in Barboursville, on Sept. 12; Clarksburg, Sept. 18; Martinsburg, Sept. 19; and Moundsville, Sept. 26.

All events are open to the public.

Thompson said to successfully serve veterans, the state must understand the needs they deem most important.
