StateUniversity.com said Alderson Broaddus University's campus is one of the safest in the state.

The website placed Alderson Broaddus University fifth among all of West Virginia's colleges and universities.

It's also the highest ranked four-year institution on the list.

University administrators said campus safety is a priority, and that they are happy to have their efforts acknowledged.

"We have a great community that supports us as well, as well as a great partnership with the local law enforcement, so it's not a huge surprise to us, but it's definitely great to be recognized for something we take huge pride in," said Sarah War, of Alderson Broaddus University.

Ward said the university will continue to look for way to keep the campus safe as it moves into the future.
