WVU Holds Open House at New Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

West Virginia University has cut the ribbon on its new Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

An open house was held at the office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The new division replaces the former Office of Social Justice and keeps it all under one roof.

It said its responsibility is to help promote positive diversity across campus and set a good example for the state.

"We need to really learn to manage this idea of our differences. We have more similarities than differences. In fact our definition, in the WVU Strategic Plan is that diversity is the collection of similarities and differences wherever you find them," David Fryson, chief diversity officer.

The university said studies show greater diversity equals better decision making.

The office is located across from the Mountaineer Station Transportation Center on the second floor of the Suncrest Center on the Evansdale Campus of WVU.
