Both the men's and women's soccer programs have never looked better at Davis and Elkins College.
The women were picked to finish second and the men were chosen as the favorite to win the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
On top of all that, they have a new field to call home.
The brand new AstroTurf has officially been laid down and the Senators are now practicing on the surface. Construction workers began the project earlier this month...but ran into delays thanks to the wet weather.
D&E's new artificial surface is unique to the area, since almost all of the new facilities have been part of football stadiums. The Senators do not have a football program, so the AstroTurf was formatted to fit a soccer field.
Players and Coaches agree it's a good time to be part of the D&E soccer program.
"So far we've had a week on it, and already we can see a difference," Senators junior captain Dan Savory said. "Players are excited to train on it and get out here right away, and perform well on it. You can have a good touch and trust the bounce on here."
"I think it helps us in recruiting, but also just more importantly with development, too. We really need a field in order for our guys to practice on and we can count on. That's really where it makes the biggest difference for us, is the actual practicing on here. Even in the past six days that we've been out here, you can see that from our team. We've had some great practices," D&E Men's Soccer Head Coach Aron Bassoff said.
