Residents Form Neighborhood Watch Group in Broadway Community Of Clarksburg

CLARKSBURG -

The Clarksburg Police Department hosted a neighborhood watch meeting in the Broadway community on Tuesday.

Officer Mike Daugherty said the department wants groups in every neighborhood.

Meetings were also held in other communities on Tuesday.

Officer Daugherty told the residents that they can be the eyes and ears of that neighborhood and showed them how to do it.

Clarksburg Police Chief Robert Hilliard, Chief Deputy James Chamberlain, and Clarksburg City Council member Patsy Trecost also attended the meeting.

Daugherty said the shootings on Locust Avenue make neighborhood watch programs even more important.

"People have woken up, they said we can't just sit by and hope because we cannot be everywhere at once. With a neighborhood watch it really helps us out because they are extra eyes and extra ears. Now we know where the crime is really happening because you know your neighbors better than I know your neighbors," said Daugherty.

Daugherty said he'll meet with neighborhood watch groups across the city each month, and together they can "take back the city."

Clarksburg Neighborhood Watch has a Facebook page where you can find more information.
