Posted: Updated:

A celebration was held at the Marion County Courthouse on Wednesday in honor of its circuit clerk.

The West Virginia Supreme Court announced Monday that Barbara Core will retire after 26 years in office.

Marion County is participating in the pilot program for the new e-filing system and Core was a big part in its start.

She will continue working on the new e-filing system with the state.

The Supreme Court said it is contracting with Morgantown company Software Systems to provide the system in 14 pilot counties. They should be up and running within the next year.

County judges, state officials, and many others came to Marion County to celebrate Core's retirement.

She said she thanks everyone for all of the support they have given her over the years and she can't wait for the next chapter in her life.

"I have been granted the most wonderful opportunities that anybody could have been granted. I got to travel the country," Core said. "I got to meet fantastic people throughout the country and throughout the state of West Virginia. Life long dear friends."

Rhonda Starn was sworn in as the new Circuit Clerk by Judge David Janes.

Core's last day in office will be August 30.
