A proposal to close the locks and dams on the Upper Monongahela River has been a hot topic over the past year and that conversation is far from over.

The Marion County Commission signed a 14-point resolution in support of the locks and dams in 2012 after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined that the funding of the nation's locks and dams has caused problems in maintaining the system on the river.

The points in the resolution range from having part time employees to keeping the locks open only 45 days instead of 90.

The commission said it is sticking with its support especially now that a new boat ramp will be installed at Palatine Park in the coming months.

"With bass nation here supporting our effort into putting in a major, not only the newest but the nicest ramp and facility in the state, we can have local tournaments here in Marion County on the Mon bringing in people all over the state and other states," said Randy Elliot, of the Marion County Commission.

Bass Nation will hold a public meeting on Friday, September 13 to build community support for the locks and dams.

The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Morgantown Municipal Airport.
