Update

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a driver killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 79 Friday.

The driver has been identified as William M. Williams, 50, of Clarksville, TN.

Original Story

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department is investigating a motorcycle crash Friday on Interstate 79.

It happened just before 6 p.m. at mile marker 144.

Sheriff's deputies said the driver was killed in the crash after he lost control of his motorcycle. The driver's name is being withheld pending family notification. 

Both northbound lanes of I-79 were shut down for a period of time.

The crash is still under investigation.

West Virginia State Police, West Virginia Department of Highways, Monongalia County EMS and Rescue, Triune, Halleck, and Clinton District Volunteer Fire Departments all responded.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, and who has not already given a statement  is asked to contact the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department at 304-291-7260.
