Jackson's Mill Jubilee Brings World Renowned Balloon Artist

The Jackson's Mill Jubilee has been an annual event for almost 40 years.

Craft vendors, food, and fun are all apart of the Jubilee.

Debbie Garrett is the president of the Jackson's Mill Jubilee and said education is also one of the main purposes of the festival.

"It's about education and history. A lot of the people who started on the original board were teachers. They wanted to preserve the things here for Jackson's Mill. This was General Stonewall Jackson's home place basically," said Garrett.

More than 100 craft vendors filled Jackson's Mill, with everything from basket makers, to scarf weavers, and everything in between.

One attraction that had kids lining up was Gilbert Adams who has won 10 world championships for his balloon artistry.

"I'm a Christian missionary, and I raise money doing this and I put it back into the show or to go on mission trips. I have a lot of fun, and I try to bring some joy to people that don't always get it," said Adams.

Adams made anything the kids asked for at the Jubilee all for just tips. He said he has one creation he makes at almost every show he does.

"My ultimate favorite without a doubt is my baseball hat. That was the first one I ever designed from scratch. It is my signature piece. I like balloons that the kids can play with. The baseball hat was just by a complete accident. I fell in love with it," Adams said.

Adams doesn't just make balloons for fun, he said he likes to make people happy.

"I do balloons for boys and girls who live in sewers, or who live in the streets, different places like that wherever I can bring someone a smile," Adams said.
