CLARKSBURG -

The West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival wrapped up on Sunday in downtown Clarksburg.

Sunday's events included a performance by Jo Dee Messina, an outdoor catholic mass, and the meatball eating contest.

Contestants tried to eat as many meatballs as possible in just three minutes.

The winner of the men's division ate 26 meatballs.

Regina Maria XXXV Elleyse Gemondo was at the contest, and said she couldn't be happier to be this year's queen.

"It was something I always wanted to do ever since I was a little girl. It was kind of a dream come true. I've been coming to the festival for many, many years so to be the queen is just amazing," Gemondo said.

Gemondo's father, Kim Gemondo, said this was his favorite year for the festival, for an obvious reason.

"This is the best for me because my daughter is the queen of course. It's just been a wonderful experience for us all and she's just made us so proud," said Gemondo.

In addition to the meatball eating contest there was a pizza eating contest for the kids.

Sunday also included two new events, which were a grape stomping demonstration and a car and bike show.

This was the 35th year for the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival.
