Update

The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties has raised 61-percent of its goal mid-way through its campaign.

Wednesday morning the United Way announced during its progress report that it's raised $925,000 of its more than $1.5 million goal.

Mylan Pharmaceuticals reported that it raised nearly $300,000 alone, passing its own campaign goal.

The final report will be revealed December 17.

Original story

The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties has kicked off its 2014 campaign.

The United Way invited its 10 pacesetter companies to a picnic lunch where each revealed how much money it has raised.

Organizers said the carnival scene was sure to raise the spirits of donors at the annual kick-off event.

Campaign chair Brad Greathouse said the tally stands just shy of $400,000.

"We're actually at 380,640 for the campaign this year, so we're off to a good start. Our pacesetter organization generally raise about 35-40 percent of the general campaign money, which we're trying to reach a target of 1,525,000 for this year's campaign," Greathouse said.

Last year the United Way raised more than $1.5 million.
