Upshur County Human Resources Holds Annual Head Start Conference

Posted: Updated:

Upshur County Human Resources has kicked off its annual Head Start conference.

Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood development program.

Based on the development of children, Head Start offers an educational curriculum with special emphasis on the child's emotional, social, health, nutritional and physical needs.

According to the organization's website, the UHR Head Start Program recently received reaccreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The program has expanded from its early beginnings of one center and one classroom of 20 children to five centers and 10 classrooms that service a total of 193 children.

The annual conference provides staff the training they need to stay compliant.

Organizers have scheduled 18 training sessions in nine classrooms at five different sites.

They have also invited other Head Start and day care providers from across the state.

"There are other agencies, anybody that we can think of that deals with kids, families, people. We certainly try to extend an invitation to them as well to attend the training," said Donna Thomason, the Volunteer Coordinator for Upshur County Human Resources.

Several professional trainers will present training on topics that affect young children.

The conference will wrap up on Friday.
