PARSONS -

A veteran memorial in Tucker County has been repaired.

In February, rumors started circulating that a veteran memorial in front of the Tucker County Court house would be removed due to poor condition.

The monument was erected more than 60 years ago in front of the county courthouse. It honors local veterans from both world wars, Korea, and Vietnam.

The Tucker County Veterans Association brought the issue to the Tucker County Commission.

In April, the Tucker County Commission approved up to $3,000 of funds to rebuild the stone wall and replace the lighting.

Local veterans got businesses and city and county leaders on board to help repair the plaques.

The plaques were sand blasted and clear coated, and a new foundation is now in place.

The Tucker County Veterans Association said it's a big improvement.

"We wanted to make it as good as we could. Something that my grandkids and great grandkids can come and look and see who is on that wall, and know who is on that wall," said Daniel Barkley a Tucker County Veteran.

A rededication ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday.

That ceremony will be held in front of the Tucker County Courthouse where the monument stands.
