CLARKSBURG -

The Harrison County Mayors' Association met on Wednesday evening.

The group of mayors wants to do something to address the drug problem in the area.

Citizens gave presentations and discussed ideas to combat the drug problem.

Drugs affect every city and town in Harrison County, so Shinnston Mayor Sam DeMarco said that working together is an important step in the process.

"It is very important that all the cities work together because when these drug dealers find that they can't do business in Clarksburg they'll move to another city. But if we all work together we can maybe push them out of the area," said DeMarco, who is also president of the Harrison County Mayors' Association.

Clarksburg Police officer Mike Daugherty was at the meeting and pitched the idea of 'Community Cares.'

'Community Cares' will potentially be an after school program for middle school and high school students that will aim to "take back the community."

DeMarco said that all of the ideas and suggestions will be taken into consideration, and discussed further at the next meeting.

The mayors will meet with local lawmakers next month to discuss some ways to address the problem, and hopefully get some potential laws into the legislature.
