Crews are investigating a latex spill in the Kanawha River at Magic Island in Charleston, WV.
According to Kathy Cosco with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, a call came in around 12 p.m. Thursday about a white material spilled or running into the Kanawha River at Magic Island.
The Environmental Enforcement staff went to the scene and discovered that there was vandalism to a Department of Highways vehicle, which caused latex paint inside the vehicle to spill into the river.
Cosco states that latex paint in large quantities can be dangerous to fish, however, there is no indication of any danger to fish or to the public.
Crews are on the scene cleaning up the mess.
There is no word yet on any suspects who caused the vandalism.
