American Legion Working with Educators to Promote Patriotism

Posted: Updated:

The American Legion is working with educators to promote patriotism in the classroom.

American Legion posts are working with the West Virginia Department of Education to strengthen mandatory social studies curriculum.

Experts found that some classes weren't teaching anything on history.

Veterans said it's important that students learn how our country was founded, and what freedom means to us.

"Americanism is without a doubt is one of the most important things we have. It enters into every faction of life that we know and enjoy the freedoms we have in America," said Les Shreve, of the American Legion Post 7.

The Frank B. Bartlett American Legion Post 7 will be working with Upshur County Schools to make sure this curriculum is available in the classrooms.
