Punt, Pass, Kick Competition Held in Harrison County

Boys and girls participated in a national competition on Saturday in Harrison County.

More than 40 kids between the ages of 6 and 15 participated in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick, held at the Summit Park Recreational Complex. The event was put on by the local Knights of Columbus and the Harrison County Parks and Recreation.

Participants competed to see who could punt, pass and kick the football the farthest distance.

Among those competing were three reigning champions.

"Two years ago I won Steelers and I got in top four so I got to go to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the national competition and there was a lot of pressure but I stuck through it and got second place," said Emily Riggs, who placed second at the national competition in 2011.

"I decided to come back because it was fun and I kind of got to travel," said Gabby Reep, who competed in the Steelers competition in 2012.

"Even though it is a male dominant sport, girls can play and I think that is good," said Lyda Sand, who placed second place at the Steelers competition in 2012.

The winners of Saturday's event will head to Regionals in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

After the football competition, some local children also participated in a soccer competition.
