Members of Marion County's 50th District delegation of the House of Delegates have secured a $3,000 grant to help maintain the Vietnam Veterans Mobile Wall as it travels throughout the state.

"This wall honors the more than 700 West Virginians who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and I am very pleased that the state is providing some financial support to this effort," Delegate Mike Caputo, D-Marion, who also is House Majority Whip, said in a news release. "I can't thank the West Virginia State Council of Vietnam Veterans enough for developing this project over the past several years."

Delegate Linda Longstreth, D-Marion, who also is vice chairman of the House of Delegates Committee on Veterans Affairs, said the committee has closely followed the creation of the Vietnam Veterans Mobile Wall.

"I know legislators will look forward to hearing an update on the Mobile Wall's travels throughout the state," Longstreth said.

Delegate Tim Manchin, D-Marion, said he was honored the wall was dedicated in Fairmont earlier this summer.

"We are grateful to the Council for not only working for years to complete the wall, but also continually raising funds to ensure it travels to all 55 counties," Manchin said in a news release.

House Speaker Tim Miley, D-Harrison, said the Marion County House delegation "made a strong case for providing the grant for the mobile wall," as he was considering grant requests to be sent to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin for his approval.

"Delegates Manchin, Longstreth and Caputo hold leadership positions in the House because each of them has shown great dedication and insight into the needs of both the residents of Marion County and the state as a whole," Miley said in a news release. "They are strong advocates for our state's veterans, and I commend them for joining together in seeking funding for such a worthy cause."
