In an effort to reduce costs, maintain accreditation and increase access in wake of the 7.5 percent  budget cuts that community colleges in West Virginia have recently experienced, West Virginia University at Parkersburg has partnered with Pearson to transition all of its online degree programs onto OpenClass, a free, cloud-based learning environment.

WVU Parkersburg faculty and Pearson's Instructional Design and Assessment team will work together to restructure and enhance up to 220 of its courses with eLearning content and assessment from CourseConnect.

Business administration, business technology, multi-craft technology and general education are four associate degree programs currently being transitioned to OpenClass. Students will also have access to eTextbooks, live, on-demand online tutoring, MyLab and Mastering products, a 24/7 help desk and digital assets.

"As early adopters and design partners for Pearson's OpenClass, we are pleased with Pearson's extensive support services and commitment to innovation," Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, WVU Parkersburg president and lead board member, said. "The partnership enables us to increase access to highly quality education for current and prospective students in West Virginia and other states."
