Planned ATV resort near Bramwell draws opposition

Posted: Updated:

PRINCETON, WV (AP) — A planned ATV resort near Bramwell is drawing oppositions from residents who say it could disrupt their neighborhood.

Coal Camp ATV Resort LLC plans to build 50 cottages on a 30-acre site in the Shinbrier Mountain area. Future plans include a restaurant and an ATV wash.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that residents near the site voiced opposition to the project on Tuesday during a Mercer County Commission meeting.

Ronald Gullion said that residents are concerned about the resort's impact on wildlife, noise and ATV traffic.

One of the resort's developers, Anthony Simpkins, says the resort will create jobs and bring visitors to the area.

Mercer County doesn't have a county zoning ordinance. Commissioner Gene Buckner says the County Commission can't tell Simpkins what to do with his property.
