Glenville State College to Hold Annual Observance of Constitution Day

A local will celebrate the founding of our country next week.

Glenville State College will hold its annual observance of Constitution Day on Tuesday. It will also celebrate West Virginia's sesquicentennial.

Glenville State Senior Vice President of External Relations Jim Spears will speak at the program.

Spears said it's important for people to understand what was written in the original Constitution.

"We need to carefully look at some of the phrases that are used in there, and not just try and take what some people have interpreted them to mean," Spears said.

Students also will have the opportunity to participate in an essay contest. This year's topic focuses on the constitutionality of West Virginia's statehood.
