An Upshur County jewelry maker is a nominee for the Martha Stewart American Made Award.

"I've always been a very creative person, and from the time I was little, I was always creating things, said Christine Keller of Chrizart Creations.

Keller likes to dive in and try new things. It started with her playing around with pottery, and when she decided to melt glass into fired clay, she realized she was creating pieces that made a bold statement.

"It has just exploded into all kinds of jewelry. From there I've gone to wrapping stones, and of course the signature piece my glass geodes I still do, and I've learned to do silver smithing in that time," Keller said.

Keller's business Chrizart Creations has four lines of jewelry. From rings and pendants to earrings and bracelets, her work is one of a kind. It's even earned her a nomination for the 2013 Martha Stewart American Made Award. The winner earns a $10,000 prize to further their business, and be featured on Martha Stewart's website. Voting continues until Sept. 30.

Keller said if you believe in something you'll find a way to make it work.

"So it's really exciting to me to stay home and work and just have somebody, and have people wanting to buy what I'm making is exciting. It thrills me that there is a market for it," Keller said.
