Renovations Continue At Fairmont Skate Park

Posted: Updated:

Two Fairmont teenagers recently asked Marion County Commission for help to upgrade the city's skate park.

The commission said it is always willing to help out a person who is willing to help themselves.

The teenagers said people are coming from Morgantown, Clarksburg, and even as far as Parkersburg to take advantage of the park.

Commission President Randy Elliott said they went over to look at the skate park several weeks ago and feel the improvements are necessary.

The teens volunteered to re-paint the park themselves, if the county would provide them paint.

The Commission's maintenance department has been working with the teens ever since to make upgrades at the park.

It has cleared several trees, repainted the equipment, done repaving, and worked to expand the park.

The commission is allowing the teens to paint the park's equipment, as long as there as no profanity.

Maintenance Foreman, Jeff Biafore, said the kids are "overwhelmingly grateful" for the help they have received from the commission.

The commission said workers will install additional lights in the park in the near future, so the kids can skate after dark.

It will be working on several additional projects in the coming months to provide more activities for kids in Marion County,
