The 25th Annual Doctor D.R. Davis Golf Tournament was held in Preston County on Sunday.

Almost 200 golfers attended the event to raise money for the Hospice Cares Corporation. Teams were $260 and individual golfers signed up for $65. The event was a shotgun scramble with two tee-off times, 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Hospice Cares Corporation was started in Preston County 30 years ago by the namesake of the tournament.

"This will be one of their biggest fundraisers, which I was really excited to hear because my grandfather was a huge golfer," said Julie Davis, Dr. D.R. Davis' granddaughter. "He would have been here doing this with all of them. He would be really excited to see this. He would have been out and playing. So, it's very fitting for him."

This year's golf outing was one of the most successful the Hospice Care Corporation has ever had.

"Some people that are playing today have actually played every single year. I'm actually playing with Mr. Bill Harvey, and his wife Judy who could not be here with us today, it actually started in their dining room," said Malene Davis, the Founding President of Hospice Cares Corporation. "And that's just so apropos for Hospice Care."

Hospice Cares Corporation serves people in 12 counties with terminal illnesses.
