On Thursday, Empty Bowls Monongalia hosted a reception for donors and recipients at Monongalia General Hospital.

Empty Bowls raises money to help feed hungry people. Its goal is to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity issues.

The reception Thursday evening kicked off the group's fundraising campaign. Empty Bowls reached a goal of more than $65,000 last year and has set a goal of $100,000 for this year.

"I have nothing but respect for empty bowls since they started, and they are so ambitious to get this job done every year. They set a goal, and I think they're never going to make it and they do and we see more and more tables," said recipient Marge McCawley.

Empty Bowls will host a soup and bread Luncheon fundraiser on February 22, 2014 at Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center in Morgantown.

Tickets for the luncheon are available for a minimum donation of $15 each. Children 10 and under will be able to eat for free. There have been more than 1,500 soups donated by numerous organizations thought Monongalia County.

Each person who donates and purchases a ticket will receive a ceramic bowl to have their soup in. If you would like to help Empty Bowls Monongalia you can contact it at (304) 692-4823 or (304) 288-6070.
