DIVISION-II COLLEGE FOOTBALL

St. Joseph's College 45

Alderson Broaddus 17

PHILIPPI -- On a soggy day in Philippi the Battlers struggled to get the offense in rhythm. After leading 10-7 in the first quarter, ABU surrendered 38 points unanswered points before Brandon Jones scampered in from 23 yards out in mop-up time to give the Battlers their second touchdown of the day.

Jones carried the ball 31 for 111 yards and a score. Despite heavy rains the Battlers threw the ball 32 times. Starter Wilson Vaughn completed 13 of 23 for 249 yards.

On the first drive of the game Vaughn connected with Logan Bauder for 74 yards, but it would be a long day for the quarterback. He was picked off 3 times.

The rain could be blamed for some of the Battlers struggles. The team turned the ball over 5 times, and a fumble led to a St. Joseph's safety in the second quarter. When ABU had a chance to pounce they struggled to do so. In the first quarter Preston Bailey dropped a sure touchdown catch in the back of the end zone and 5 Puma turnover gave ABU plenty of opportunities.

On the other side of the field St. Joseph's had one thing in mind, running the ball. On a rainy day, a running attack that racked up nearly 500 yards and 4 scores was just what the doctor had in mind, and it's why St. Joseph's College comes away with the win, 45-17.
